住房 & Residential 教育 provides several programs and services to maximize safety measures used in the residence halls, houses and apartments. It is the responsibility of each member of the community and their guests to be safe 在校园. 这可以是 accomplished by being aware of your surroundings, reporting suspicious behavior, preventing the propping of doors, and not allowing other students to tailgate when entering the access card doors.

Emergency Training and Communication Procedures

  • In the event of an emergency, communication will be disseminated from UNCPD to neighborhood front desks or duty staff residence hall front desks as part of the university’s emergency phone tree (the simultaneous call to 50 different phone lines).
  • Front desk staff will notify hall staffs, who notify residents by going door-to-door and posting information, depending on the type of emergency.
  • Residents can sign up for UNC Emergency Alerts.
  • 所有 residence hall staff went through a "table top" exercise that tested their ability to respond in the event of a natural disaster. Other table tops are routinely held 在校园.
  • 住房 and Residential 教育 has a liaison program with UNCPD which partners one officer with one building staff.

额外的 security measures consist of:

  • 所有 perimeter doors of all residence halls and apartments are locked 24 hours a day and there is video surveillance at entrances and other areas inside housing facilities.
  • Students must swipe their UNC ID to enter facilities within their neighborhood. 所有 swipes are logged.
  • Many of our residence hall rooms have an electronic lock. The lock can be unlocked only when residents swipes their UNCID through the lock and enter their unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) that has been encoded on the card. 所有 swipes are logged.
  • Our keyed apartments, houses, and residence hall rooms have only one spare key available for lockouts at the neighborhood desk only to residents of that room. 房间在哪里 keys are lost have the lock changed and new keys are issues to the residents.
  • Each residence hall room has a peep hole for students to be able to identify who is 在门口.
  • The university has the ability to send messages to all residence hall office phones.
  • Neighborhood desks open from 8 a.m. – 2 a.m.
  • Student staff and Professional staff on call evenings from 5 p.m. - 8 a.m. 和所有 周末.
  • Continuous review of interior and exterior lighting.
  • Annual review and trimming of planting around halls which may pose security or safety 风险.
  • Emergency phones located strategically throughout residential areas.
  • Emergency communications are hardwired into all elevators and in numerous campus labs and recreational facilities.
